White Makrana marbles
The stone used in the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata, India is white Makrana marble. It is famous for its pure white color and is commonly used in various historical buildings and monuments in India.
The eariest pyramids were built of stone but in later years mud bricks cased in stone was used.
Stone bridges were built to get over rivers etc, before iron or steel was used.
The Romans built stone paved roads, but this improvement in transport was probably used before, soon after wheeled transport became common. The Inca of South America were another peoples who used stone paved roads. And also extensive stone paved footpaths over long distances and undulating terrain.
They were built because the stone used was stronger than wood and was hard to destruct
The materials were Ashlar (dressed stone) and brick

Stone was used whilst building a Norman castle because of these reasons: * Stone's strong * Stone's hard to set on fire * Stone doesn't rot Before stone castles were built the Normans used Motte and Bailey castles which were made out of wood. Wood is the complete opposite to all the bullet points above.
The materials used by the colonists for building were wood, brick, and more rarely stone
It is built of bricks, stone and dirt. Slabs of stone were used for the base and sides of the wall and is filled with dirt, rocks and rubble.
