As a general rule, cemetaries are not inherrantly associated with religion, but more traditionally with the hygenic disposal of the dead.

Cemetaries are only linked to religion by the nature of the public or private services which oversee the burial or cremation of corpses.

Many churches do, indeed own the land on which the local cemetery is situated. This stems back many years to times when the local church was also the local governmental centre of administrations.

You could say that many Christian cemetaries throughout England are also public parks or are annexed to public parks, but in calling the cemetaries christian you would be making an error, as you will likely find followers of other religions buried under the same site as well.

Also, Christianity is not the only religion to accept the general public into its burial grounds. The Pyramids of Gizeh are a prime example. Other examples exist within almost every culture and religion throughout the world.

They were, of course, thinking of such uses as roads, schools, public buildings, parks, and bridges.
