Acid rain is made when there is too much sulfur in the air. When rain falls, it dissolves the sulfur and turns into acid. This destroys the plants and maybe even some of the animals on the surface of the Earth. One way in which we can stop acid rain is by factories and vehicles cutting down on pollution.
Acid rain having bad effects. The problems acid rain is rapidly spreading because it is mainly caused by industrial processes, auto mobiles, and power plants. Those countries that are developed have the most severe acid rain problems how ever as the undeveloped nations begin to industrialize, acid rain increase greatly. Many ecosystems are effected by acid rain bodies of water such as lakes and rivers.
the affect of acid rain in lake and river is
Acid rain causes acidification of lakes and streams and contributes to the damage of trees at high elevations (for example, red spruce trees above 2,000 feet) and many sensitive forest soils. In addition, acid rain accelerates the decay of building materials and paints, including irreplaceable buildings, statues, and sculptures that are part of our nation's cultural heritage. Prior to falling to the earth, sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) gases and their particulate matter derivatives---sulfates and nitrates---contribute to visibility degradation and harm public health.
Acid rain has been linked to many serious adverse effects on ecosystems, especially aquatic ecosystems on which it falls. That's because watery environs and the surrounding soil often have limited capacities to buffer the water and maintain ideal pH balances.
Once the acid level rises above the buffering capacity of a particular area, the acid begins to draw aluminum out of the ground. Aluminum -- along with overly acidic waters -- is toxic to lots of fish and other species in lakes and streams. Some species can better tolerate acid in water than others. Generally, acid rain affects the youngest members of a species the most, because eggs won't hatch. As acid rain effects increase, some or all adult fish die [source: Environmental Protection Agency]. And even species that aren't directly affected by the alterations can easily lose important sources of food if too much exposure occurs in a given area, decreasing biodiversity even further.
