Lake Chad was a giant lake that had thousands and thousands of square miles of the surface area of the lake. but over the years there was a series of droughts and people were using it for fish, water, and crops. because of all that the lake now is only about 495 square miles.
so, lake chad was a very important and very good resource for the people around it that were desperate. :)
