Mount Everest effectively straddles Nepal and Tibet. As regards local names, those in Nepal call it Sagarmatha, while those in Tibet call it Chomolungma or Qomolangma. The Chinese, who have claimed Tibet, call it Zhumulangma. The Nepalese name means something akin to Mother Goddess of the Earth. A link can be found below for more information.
Chomolungma
In 1856, the mountain was "discovered" by the British, who named it after the person who had "gained a reputation as the most ill-tempered sahib in India". Of course, the Tibetans and Sherpas had known it was there all along, and called it Chomolungma. Later, the Nepalese invented the name Sagarmatha (brow of the sky) to remind everyone that they owned half the mountain. I'll follow the Tibetans.
The meaning of "Chomolungma" seems to be lost in time (it doesn't mean Goddess Mother of the Universe/Earth/World/Snows/whatever). Tenzing Norgay's mother (a Tibetan) once translated it as "the mountain so high that no bird can fly over it". When asked what it means, a Tibetan nomad answered:
"Hen."
"Hen?"
"Yeah, but a big hen, with all its feathers puffed out. So it looks fat."
"Big fat hen?"
"Yes, big fat hen."

Here in England we call Mount Everest just that......Mount Everest.
No. The tallest peak that we call Mt. Everest (8848 mtr.) is in Nepal. But its northern base is in Tibet, China, so it can be climbed from the Chinese side as well.An agreement between Nepal and China states that Nepal will not ask the climbers for a permit from the government of Nepal even if they climb it from the northern side.Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, can be found on the border of Nepal and Tibet in the Himalayan mountains. You probably mean Mount Everest, and it is in Tibet, which politically speaking is now part of China, although many Tibetans do not agree.

Mt. Everest is named after Sir George Everest. He was a British military engineer who served as a surveyor general of India from 1829 to 1843. During this time he surveyed the peak, and became the first person to record the location and height of the mountain, which at that time was called Peak XV. Andrew Waugh, Everest's successor as the British Surveyor General of India, decided that Peak XV should be named after George Everest. George Everest was opposed to the idea, claiming to the Royal Geographical Society in 1857 that Everest could not be written in Hindi nor pronounced by 'the native of India'. Waugh's proposed name prevailed despite his objections, and in 1865, the Royal Geographical Society officially adopted Mount Everest as the name for the highest mountain in the world. Most people in Nepal call Mt. Everest, Sagarmtha, meaning forehead in the sky. Speakers of the Tibetan language call Mt. Everest Chomolungma. The translation is "goddess, mother of the world."
