They are not native to the area and now have grown into a population of an estimated 10,000+ . Another factor is that they are breeding with another Python species that is the African Rock Python. This species is known to be aggressive and with the two breeding they are producing a new type of Python. The snakes are eating everything in the Everglades and the Everglades has proven to be a good environment for them. They are spreading too and have been found on islands in the Florida Keys and some biologist think that they could spread from coast to coast at some point. They are VERY invasive and there is an effort to rid the Everglades of them, but right now biologists are loosing the battle.
