The Eiffel Tower is an iron lattice tower located in Paris, France, and is one of the most well known landmarks in the world.

The tower was completed in 1889. It serves as a tourist attraction, a venue for observations of the city of Paris, and as a location for TV and radio broadcast antennae. Named for its designer, engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower was built as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair.

The tower stands 324 metres (1,063 ft) tall, about the same height as an 81-storey building. It was the tallest man-made structure in the world from its completion until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930. Not including broadcast antennas, it is the second-tallest structure in France after the 2004 Millau Viaduct.

The tower has three levels for visitors. Tickets can be purchased to ascend, by stairs or lift, to the first and second levels. The walk to the first level is over 300 steps, as is the walk from the first to the second level. The third and highest level is accessible only by lift. Both the first and second levels feature restaurants.

The tower has become the most prominent symbol of both Paris and France, often in the establishing shot of films set in the city.

The Eiffel Tower is the most famous landmark in the city of Paris, the capital of France. It was erected between 1887 and 1889 in Le Champs de Mars on the south bank of the River Seine. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel for the Paris Exhibition of 1889. Its height of 300 metres or 984 feet made it the highest building in the world until 1930 when the Chrysler Building in New York was constructed. The Eiffel Tower consists of three stories or platforms. About 7620 tons of iron was used in its construction. Visitors can ascend to the very top by electric lifts.

The Eiffel Tower took two years to complete. Each one of the 12 000 iron pieces were designed separately so it would give them the exact shape needed. All the pieces were prefabricated and fit perfectly together using about 7 million nails.
