If it erupts in a super eruption, yes. In an eruption 10,000 times more destructive than the Mt. St. Helen's eruption of 1980, Yellowstone's super eruption will smother much of the western United States, from Washington state to Minnesota, from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico, with a thick layer of ash, destroy thousands, if not millions of homes, cause countless deaths of people, livestock, and crops, and change the weather patterns for the entire globe for years. It will, in short, be a natural catastrophe unlike any modern people have ever experienced.

But that probably won't happen in any foreseeable future.

The risk of serious injury or death while visiting Yellowstone is lower than the danger of doing so while driving to it. I call that pretty safe.
