Hey used stone to build the castles.
The same weapons that were used to attack any other castle!!
fling rocks
usually people of high royalty like kings to attack enemy castles
Stone was used whilst building a Norman castle because of these reasons: * Stone's strong * Stone's hard to set on fire * Stone doesn't rot Before stone castles were built the Normans used Motte and Bailey castles which were made out of wood. Wood is the complete opposite to all the bullet points above.
Because what castles used to be made of were not as strong as they are made of now because they had to develop the structure because the weapons that were used against castles in wars had developed stronger aswell!
Back in the day people used cannons, swords, and slingshots to break and enter.
it is used for knocking down castles and over looking places which is going to be attacked and if it is safe to attack and plan.
Stone keep castles were first built in Medieval England by William the Conqueror. Stone allowed the castles to be build higher than previous wooden castles. This gave them the great advantage of visibility, allowing defenders to see enemies coming from a great distance.
When william the conquerer conquered england he introduced castles from france, he used them to try and control the english, as a symbol of power, somewhere safe to keep an eye on people, somewhere for prisoners, somewhere where his soldiers could retreat to if they were under attack. first wooden motte and bailey castles were built as a tempory measure, and where then developed into stone castles, which were stronger and more long lasting, as you can see they still last today.
