For immigrants who ended up being approved, the process of passing through the system on Ellis Island took anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. Each person had to answer a list of 29 questions and declare how much money they had with them.

If you had no other problems during your visit to Ellis Island, the entire process should take 3 to 5 hours. Although, if you were suspected of having a mental/physical disease or disorder, you would be taken for further evaluation.

a couple days. they had to go through many examinations, like health checks and literacy tests. depending on how long those took, that's how long they had to stay.
