How far is Battery Park from Times Square?

From the southwest corner of Central Park (59th Street and Central Park West) it's about four and a half miles, according to Google Maps. Central Park is two and a half miles long, and about half a mile wide, so, depending on where in the park you are starting out from, the walk would be a mile or two longer.

Penn Station runs from West 31st Street to West 34th Street. So, the number of blocks between Penn Station and Battery Park equals the number of blocks between 31st Street and Battery Park.

Now, the neat little grid pattern that New York City is laid out on does not exist below 14th Street on the West Side, and Houston Street on the East Side. Instead of being laid out in neat little squares, the streets run in crazy zig-zags. So, it is rather difficult to count them.

But I did my best (using Google Maps) and I counted about 70 blocks between the top of Battery Park and the bottom of Penn Station.
