Actually, there is no river that runs "backwards." All rivers flow downhill from source to mouth. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River#Flow for more information.

There is one that I know of ....

The water level in the Bay of Fundy rises above the level of the St. John River in New Brunswick, Canada. The force of the incoming tide overpowers the current of the outgoing river, and the water of the Saint John begins to flow upstream - completely in reverse. New rapids form in the river, flowing in the other direction, and the effect of the tide is felt as far upriver as the city of Fredericton, almost 120 kilometres northwest of Saint John.

The best view of this phenomenon is from the Saint John Fallsview Park

I presume you mean '...flow backwards at certain times of the year/month/day?' Where they join the sea, most rivers flow backwards to a small extent when the tide is coming in, so that's twice a day. There are a few famous rivers that flow backwards at certain seasons. In the UK, the River Severn flows backwards for many miles at the highest tides, especially so in Spring and Autumn.

The Gasconade runs to the Missouri River which happens to be north of the Gasconade headwaters. Most rivers in central Missouri run south to the Mississippi. So the answer is yes and no.
