a) At first you could attack it by burning it because it was made of wood but when they replaced the wooden keep with a stone keep then you couldn't but the enemy did come up with a weapon called the battering ram. The enemy would use the battering ram as a tightrope to get across the moat then they would bash down the two fences then they would run up the hill bash the final fence down then bash the only bit of the keep that wasn't made of wood, the door. This was done at night so the defenders could not see them. It was especially hard for the defenders to see the enemy at night because in the 1100s they only had candle light and the light given off wasn't of a very good quality. To solve this problem they built the door on the first floor and built the stairs at a right angle from the door, so when the enemy tried to attack they couldn't get their bodies and force behind the battering ram to bash the door down.
