Yes, petrol and water can be separated using a process called gravity separation. Petrol, being less dense than water, will float on top of the water, allowing them to be easily separated. Alternatively, a specialized separation technique like distillation can also be used to separate petrol and water more effectively.

Petrol is known also as gasoline. It is useful because it makes the car run. But it is harmful to the environment due to the byproducts of the combustion required to make it run the car. The exhaust of a car that uses gasoline has many poisonous gasses and compounds. Carbon monoxide is one. This gas can kill you easily, even in your own car while you are driving it down the road.

I've had this happen more than once on diesel trucks in my shop. You need to remove the fuel tank, and drain it well. Refill the tank to full with the proper fuel. You may have to crank it over for a while to get all the wrong stuff pushed through, but it will usually start up.

Shall we be pedantic? Diesel fuel is an oil. Petrol is not an oil - it's a a spirit.

But wait! We know what you are really asking! What you are asking is "Can you use engine oil which does not specifically say it's for use in diesel engines, in a diesel engine?" If this is what you are asking, then the answer is "Yes you can" - but with qualifications. Today's 5w/30 "fuel saving" oil as used by Ford, and many other oils, are formulated for both petrol and diesel engines. Any engine oil (of the correct grade) will lubricate a diesel engine, but diesels are dirty! The oil easily fouls up with diesel particulate, and an oil made only for petrol engines will form sludge unless changed very regularly.

Problem: No fuel reaching fuel injectors/carburetor On older model vehicles with carbureted engines the problem is either a bad fuel pump or a clogged filter (if equipped). Replace the fuel pump because a clogged filter is a rare problem; I have never run into fuel problems caused by a clogged filter in over 40 years of vehicle maintenance. On newer model fuel injected engines check for trouble codes at vehicle On Board Diagnostic terminal; a special reader will be required. Barring the display of a trouble code' check internal fuel pressure at fuel injector rack and replace pressure delivery module.
