It demonstrated how to make money from allies - leading the anti-Persian league, and when the Persian threat abated, continuing to collect the league contributions to spend on itself.
It demonstrated the advantages and disadvantages of radical democracy - to put the people in charge, but then expose them to the wiles of opportunistic leaders who brought them into war, defeat and loss of empire.
It showed how to expend money on spreading state income amongst the people, but how this led to gross unsustainable overspending which bankrupted the state and brought it back to penury.
There are lessons there for modern states.

Mark 12
41] And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
[42] And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
[43] And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
[44] For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. Luke 21 [1] And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
[2] And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
[3] And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:
[4] For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

The main reason is that they didn't want to know.
We discussed this in GREAT LENGTH in my English class, and here was what we got.
Yes, someone actually warned the town, but the guy who came in to warn everybody, Moishe the Beadle, wasn't all that influential. He was a "jack-of-all-trades" (meaning he had no real skills so he dabbled a bit in everything) and "lived in utter penury" -he was dirt poor. Look it up, it's the first page. Anyways, what would you do if the town bum came in and told you to pack up your comfortable life and hit the road because the sky was about to cave in? You would probably stay put too. That's basically the situation we have here. Moishe was without proof of the horrendous Nazi crime, and the Nazis themselves weren't exactly announcing their goings-on to the world.
And it's true, "they didn't want to know." Whatever chance the town had of hearing the truth in Moishe's warnings was dashed at the feet of their own reluctance to hear it.

Tribes live in secluded and largely inaccesible regions of the country.They live in harmony with nature but live a life of deprivation and poverty.The socio-economic condition of Tribes leaves much to be desired. Tribes largely engage in shifting agriculture also called SLASH AND BURN agriculture.However there has been large scale encroachments on their already limited land.The government has declared a large part of the land as forest area for conservation.The traditional food security is thus being threatened. The tribes spend heavily on customs and rituals.With limited income such expenditure leads to indebtedness,bonded labour and penury. Education is not encouraged by parents.There are different dialects for several communities which makes educating even more difficult.The local calenders are different from the school calenders a fact that needs special attention while educating them. The large development projects undertaken by the government also encroaches upon their land.Large scale displacements and unsatifactory compensation and rehabilitation are common place,leading to further backwardness and seclusion.Because of their diversity they lack a common voice to bargain collectively.

I'd be REALLY, REALLY, REALLY grateful if someone could help me with this question ASAP. Anyone an expert with Shakespeare plays? I need to analysise the following poem from Measure to Measure. The theme is fear of death, and that is all I know. I'm just finding it very difficult to translate it into modern-day launguage, and to point out the key literary techniques that Shakespeare has used.
I really hope someone can help!
Thanks:
"Ay, but to die, and go we know not where;
To lie in cold obstruction and to rot;
This sensible warm motion to become
A kneaded clod; and the delighted spirit
To bathe in fiery floods, or to reside
In thrilling region of thick-ribbed ice;
To be imprison'd in the viewless winds,
And blown with restless violence round about
The pendent world; or to be worse than worst
Of those that lawless and incertain thought
Imagine howling: 'tis too horrible!
The weariest and most loathed worldly life
That age, ache, penury and imprisonment
Can lay on nature is a paradise
To what we fear of death."

The era began with Reconstruction and with the promise that blacks would not only rise up in status but be included in the nation's civic life. It opened new avenues for the working man to improve his station by starting his own business, or by moving out west to work his own farm. And it set forth the ideal that for the first time in the nation's history, rather than allowing disenfranchised slaves to count toward a given state's representation in the federal government (thereby politically empowering Southern slave-owners), each man would be accorded a single vote.
Yet by century's end, sharecropping had replaced slavery as a way to keep blacks working in penury, and the voting rights so recently granted were taken away. The industrialization of the country, which brought so much wealth to so few, left most of the rest struggling to get by as wage laborers, working for someone else in the factory or on the farm. And wealth influenced and co-opted the government at all levels, through unregulated campaign contributions, vote buying, and similar machinations.

151. Say: Come, I will recite unto you that which your Lord hath made a sacred duty for you: That ye ascribe no thing as partner unto Him and that ye do good to parents, and that ye slay not your children because of penury - We provide for you and for them - and that ye draw not nigh to lewd things whether open or concealed. And that ye slay not the life which Allah hath made sacred, save in the course of justice. This He hath command you, in order that ye may discern.
152. And approach not the wealth of the orphan save with that which is better, till he reach maturity. Give full measure and full weight, in justice. We task not any soul beyond its scope. And if ye give your word, do justice thereunto, even though it be (against) a kinsman; and fulfil the covenant of Allah. This He commandeth you that haply ye may remember.
32. For that cause We decreed for the Children of Israel that whosoever killeth a human being for other than manslaughter or corruption in the earth, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind, and whoso saveth the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Our messengers came unto them of old with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but afterwards lo! many of them became prodigals in the earth.

Two coins of the lowest denomination possible, equivalent to about a farthing combined:-
Luk 21:1-4 KJV And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. [v. 2] And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. [v. 3] And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: [v. 4] For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.
The parallel verses in Matthew 12:41-44 also says two coins, and that they both made a farthing:-
Mar 12:41-44 KJV And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. [v. 42] And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. [v. 43] And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: [v. 44] For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

The Chinese were discriminated against and suffered terrible injustices on the goldfields for several reasons.
They were hard-working folk, and would often sift through the tailings and mullock heaps left behind by other miners, finding sufficient quantities of gold to make their hard work worthwhile.
The Chinese kept to themselves, and Australians were suspicious of people who had such a closed community united by a language no-one else could understand. The other miners were suspicious of how Chinese miners looked, with their long plaits, and how they dressed.

William Shakespeare's inspirations were Geoffery Chaucer and Plutarch.
Shakespeare used many of Chaucer's poems in his plays. For example, Parliment of Fowles by Chaucer was the source for Mercutio's Queen Mab speech in Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare was also inspired by Plutarch, an Ancient Greek writer and philosopher who wrote a book called Parallel Lives. The information about people written in these books were adapted by Shakespeare for characters in his own writings.
He also gained some minor inspiration from kings, queens and emperors of his current times and his past, such as Queen Elizabeth I, Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and so on.
Aside from that, Shakespeare was also a naturally intuitive and highly educated person, which was pretty rare from his time.
Answer 2 (previous/merged)
Some people think that he might have hooked up with some actors and have liked the theatre business which gave him the idea of writing plays. Probably writing poetry was a pretty common way of chatting up girls (at least we get that impression from Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing who feels obliged to express his new-found love for Beatrice in verse, even though he's not much good at it) so everybody tried it at least a couple of times. But this is all guesswork--the fact is, we have no idea what inspired Shakespeare to do anything. He simply did not reveal his personal thoughts anywhere.
