flip open the lighter,, looking down onto the top of the mechanism there is a bar about 8mm long which overlaps two parts. There is a groove in the front of this bar, simply push on the groove, moving the bar towards the hinge edge of the top. The flint housing will be released and swing out, pop a new flint in and push the houseing back into position. The bar will pop back into possition.

There is no flint in an electronic lighter. They use a principal called piezoelectric discharge which is created by a resonant crystal and a high speed mechanical striker, much like a trigger in a weapon, and generally are not replaceable in disposable or less expensive lighters

The piezoelectric crystal has been manufactured to produce a high voltage, short duration electrical discharge which travels between two electrodes to produce a 20-40KV spark.

This form of "trigger" ignition has drawbacks in inexpensive or, "throw away" refillable lighters however. These forms of lighters do not use materials in the striker mechanism that are capable of withstanding long term "hits" and will eventually wear out since they are made with inexpensive, usually polycarbonate based materials.

Pull on the striker wheel, until the assembly slides out, unscrew the bottom, replace the flint, screw the spring back in, slide the piece back in..

How do you replace flint on a cigarette lighter It is an antique lighter the brand name appears to be lido?

The changing of flint is a fairly simple affair. You need a dime, the flint, and a piece of white paper. Placing the paper on a flat surface, put the lighter in an upright position. Grasp the body of the lighter in one hand and the casing in the other and pull. The lighter should come out of the case fairly easily. Turn the lighter over and locate the fibers at the bottom. Carefully pull the fiber from the wheel end and locate the screw. Use the dime to turn the screw and remove the tension spring. Shake the lighter to remove the old flint, then insert the new flint in the tube that the spring came from. Reinsert the spring, tighten the screw, replace the fiber, fill with fluid, and reinsert the lighter into the case.

How do you fill a Zippo lighter?

To replace the flint in your Zippo, you will need flint, a dime, and a white sheet of paper. Place the white piece of paper on a flat surface and assemble your items upon it. To reach the screw that holds the flint, grasp the lighter firmly in your hand and pull the inside of the lighter up out of the case. Lay the case aside and turn the lighter upside down. You will see a felt pad covering the whole bottom of the metal lighter assembly. With your fingernail, gently pry the pad up out of the casing and lay it aside. If your fingernail are too short to accomplish this, use the dime to pry the edge of the pad up. There is now visible a screw and much wadding. Take the dime and turn the screw counter clockwise until the spring pops up. Remove the spring and screw from the little tube they sit in. Drop the flint into the tube and replace the spring assembly in the tube. Tighten the screw until it is snug. At this time, it can be advisable to fill the lighter. Replace the felt pad in the bottom of the lighter casing. Replace the lighter assembly into the outer case and spin the thumb wheel. The lighter should spark nicely. If you have over filled the lighter, blow into the wick assembly and the flint wheel and try again. The lighter will light within seconds. Discard the paper.

Is lanthanum used in a cigarette lighter flint?

yes

What do you do if you overfill your Zippo?

Relax. The lighter fluid that accidentally spilled over the side can be wiped off. The rest will evaporate in a few minutes. When you replace the lighter in the case, allow a couple of seconds for the fluid to evaporate off the flint and the wick. Then try to strike it. If the flint does not spark, wait a few seconds more. The lighter fluid is not dangerous unless it is near a heat source. Wash your hands and then try to light the lighter again. It is fine if you overfill; the lighter won't work until the excess has evaporated.

What are the components of a zippo?

There are not alot of parts on a zippo lighter which is why it is such a reliable lighter. the main components are the flint, chimeny, flint wheel, case, case insert, cotton balls, wick, cam (that's what makes the famous zippo cling), and felt pad. there are other littlle components such as pins and the hinge on the case as well. you can replace all of the following parts yourself: the wick and flint. if you have any other problems you can send your zippo to the zippo factory in pennsillvaina and they will either fix it or replace it free of charge. hope I helped

How do you get a Zippo to spark?

If you have not tried spinning the wheel on the Zippo try that. I know that seems obvious but someone might not know that. Or if you have tried that and it does not work then you need a flint for your Zippo. These are usually sold separately from the Zippo. Once you have the Zippo flint you can place it into the lighter by removing the Zippo from the case by grasping the chimney (the thing with holes in it once you open the lighter) and the case and pulling them in opposite directions. Once the two pieces are separate, you look at the lighter's bottom, there should be a screw and some soft cloth. Unscrew the screw to replace the flint. after removing the screw and the spring, drop a flint in the hole while holding the lighter upside down, place the spring in the hole, then screw the screw back in.

How many parts does a cigarette lighter have?

a lighter can contain many different parts depending on what kind of lighter it is. a zippo type lighter consists of : 1) The Case usually chrome plated brass or stainless steel. the case consists of 4 parts. 1) The top 2) the bottom 3) the hinge 4) a small piece of metal that a spring loaded arm rests on to keep the top closed the hinge is soldered to the top and bottom peices of the case. the "arm rest" is soldered to the top 2) What I call the fuel cell, which holds a absorbant material (usually cotton) and a wick which is basically a string that is soaked in naptha (lighter fluid) and is ignighted by a flint when a steel roller is spun by your thumb. The fuel cell is a removeable part of the lighter that you pull out of the case and fill with lighter fluid. The cotton soaks up the lighter fluid which soaks the wick wiith fuel. The fuel cell also has the spring loaded arm that keeps the lid closed, and a small tube that extends from the bottom thru the top for the flint. At the top of the flint tube is a wheel that looks like a section of a file. this is turned to create a spark to ignite the wick. At the bottom of the flint tube is a small thumb screw with a spring attached that feeds the flint to the wheel. The flint and the wick are the only parts that you need to replace so these kind of lighters are very reliable and seldom need repairs The flint is very easy to replace and you can get them at most any drugstore. the wick is a bit tougher to replace but lasts a lot longer than the flint and will give a couple of years of service under most normal use.
