A strong chemical cleaner will be needed to remove tar from the driveway. Muratic acid, or something similar should soften the tar. use all safety precautions.

We found this great product called Removeez. My husband and I take our kids to the beach all the time and last weekend I got a large tar spot on my foot. We used Removeez to take it off and it worked so great and smelled even better. So happy we brought that bottle of stuff with us that day.
I just had the same problem. I used mineral spirits on an old cloth and a putty knife to scrape off the tar. It worked great! The tar will dissolve with the mineral spirits.
