Why you should listen to a nco?

The NCO's appointed over you have been given the right to lead and shape young soldiers. Commonly, a Non-Comissioned Officer has served in your position, and has learned how to do your job better than anyone else. As a NCO, I am fully responsible for the actions of all the soldiers under my leadership. For better or worse, they know that my guidance is founded on my experience and through mutual respect, they've come to realize that I act in their best interest.

One of my men asked me, "Why should we be the ones downloading this _______ connex, while you're out there telling us what to do, and how to do it?"

I replied, "I've done this multiple times, and through trial and error, I've learned the easiest way to do it. When I see that you guys need more hands, I'm in there with you, and you know that's true. Right now there are more than enough men to complete the task, so I'm out here making sure it stays organized and gets completed properly so I can go report to our Plt Sgt that we're done with the task. Do you want to walk 3/4 mile back to the C.P. and report to him?"

He said, "Roger, My bad sarge, I just hate connexes."

Everyone hates connexes, but like everything else, they're necessary to a well functioning Army.

I don't know what branch you are, but as an Infantryman, my men and I have a very close connection. I'd lay down my life for them just as fast as they'd do it for me.

I'm not saying that there aren't bad NCO's who are useless to humanity... but the fact is, NCO's managed to get where they did, it's never as easy as you think.
