Well, if you aren't letting the battery die or unplugging it, then it's probably overheating and shutting off automatically to prevent damage to the components. Heat is the number on enemy of electronic components, especially microprocessors.

To remedy this, make sure that the area around your laptop is well ventilated, ensure that all vents on the laptop's casing are clear and if it appears dusty blow it out with a can of compressed air, and finally, don't use your laptop on heat-holding materials such as pillows, blankets, or (ironically) your lap.

This is happening at me too, havent really done anything with it, but you may want to clean the fan inside :)

It's probably a problem either with the power supply itself (in desktop computers) or the cord not being plugged in well enough (in laptops and in desktops). There may also be a problem with the power cord connecting the computer to the outlet.

There are many reasons why a laptop might shut itself off. The most common reason is that this is what you told it to do in its power management settings when the battery level drops below a certain level. Another reason is that the battery has simply gone dead altogether, or at least momentarily dropped below a level that can sustain functionality. One final common reason is that the processor is becoming overheated for some reason and the computer automatically shuts itself off to prevent damage.

A computer may switch itself off as a result of:

* A power management setting to turn off if not used for a certain amount time, or if a certain action is performed (such as closing the lid of a laptop). * An operating system crash. * An emergency feature to stop overheating or hardware damage * An automatic restart after Windows has downloaded and installed updates * A faulty power supply or intermittent power interruptions in your area.
