A Marketing Manager is the one who is responsible of creating sales opportunities/channels (But not selling). The role revolves around researching the market for new tastes and demand for new product or service.

The Marketing Manager should have a strong communication skill with all the customers, internal and external, and form strategies and plans in cooperation with top management, technical (R&D) and Sales departments in the organization.

The marketing manager will:

1) Explore the market for opportunities of new product or service introduction.

2) Structure the prices/cost of the proposed product or service.

3) Define the distribution channels through which the final product or service will be delivered to the end users.

4) Promote the current and new product or services and run advertisements in order to create product or service awareness and support sales in the targeted market/Segment.

The above main aspects are known as the Marketing Mix or the 4Ps(Product, Price, Place and Promotion.)

Marketing and Sales in short:

Marketing is the planning and introduction function for the product and/or service, whereas Sales, is the "make the deal" and follow up function.
