The land telegraph was invented by Samuel F. B. Morse, in the 1830s I think. He built this thing that when a button was pushed at one place, it could cause a clacker to go clack at the other end of a wire many miles long. In order to send information over it, he invented a code of clacks for each letter of the alphabet ... which he modestly called Morse's Code. The message sent as the first public demonstration was "What hath god wrought".
Out of 11 children only 3 survived past one year old and Samuel was the oldest
Even though Samuel Morse invented his version of the electrical telegraph in 1837, another inventor came up with a slightly different one in 1832.If i remember correctly, the another guy did come up with a version of the electrical telegraph, but that it was too complicated and difficult to use, and when he was trying to sort these problems out, old Samuel Morse released his version.
Any good, big dictionary, and any encyclopedia, should have the chart listing the Morse Code forevery letter, numeral, and punctuation. If those fail, an old Boy Scout Handbook is guaranteed to have it.
It depends if you mean the telegraph or wiring. The telegraph was invented by Samuel Finley Breese Morse around 1832. If you mean just wire, nobody really knows who invented it. Wire is probably over 4000 years old.
Yes, Morse Code is employed on modern naval ships in case practical means of communication have been lost. It is also useful in other situations of distress. In relation to the use of Morse by civilians, it is possible to send Morse over old telegraphs or even radio as well as other means. So yes it is still in use.
