Well first of all to do a simple thing is to open the image which is in file or right click.The if you want to add text click on the text tool at the top there are some effects you can use to make the text look better like "drop shadow,stroke or fill pattern"Click on effect on the text bok to do so.
To add a background to an image open the image choose the "polygon" too,l and the right side and click all around the shape until it flashes a little bit.Then right click and invert selection now you can fill in around the shape.Right click and click stroke and fill ,if you want to upload your own image for the background "fill pattern" and open a file or just choose a colour.
