A modem's send light may not light up when connected to a wireless router if the two are not communicating. This can be caused by a faulty cable, an incorrect configuration, or a bad router.

Don't know 'why' but I solved my hot modem and hot router problem. Bought a cheap laptop pad (with the fans) at Big Lots ($8), plugged it into my router, set modem and router on it. They don't get hot anymore.
Well it depends on what type of modem require; the price can vary.
Your router/modem may be causing the disconnection. Go in to your router/modem settings to ensure that it is set to keep the connection active ("Keep Alive" mode), and is NOT set to "Connect on Demand". Check with your ISP or router/modem manufacturer if you do not know how to set the router/modem to "Keep Alive" mode.
If you have a modem, simply unplug and replug your modem. You should be given a new IP address. If not, I honestly don't know. Best of luck though
You will need to buy a new modem that is designed for your DSL modem. This is due to the fact that the modem is designed to use the dsl signal opposed to the cable modem.
Belkin has a special port for modem connection. Usually on the top of it, it's written "Internet", or "Modem". Sometimes the port has green marking.
