A 404 message generally indicates a webpage not and happens when the browser can't find the address on the server. Other reason behind this is typo error (ie, wrongly spelled URL or the linked URL was removed/updated).
Sometimes it is very simple to fix 404 file not found error. You can refresh the page, check the URL you typed, clear the browser's cache. However, there are some technicalities involved other times due to which this very client side error shows like if the page has been deleted entirely, or you don't have the permissions to see that page and more. Like I said, fixing the error can be simple like mentioned above or tricky like in this part. Contact the webmaster to fix the error.

That's going to depend on what's causing the error. Is it a wordpress 404, or a server 404? If it's a server 404, something isn't instaled correctly. If it's a wordpress 404, you'll likely need to change your permalink to the item you're looking for.

A 404 error is a website couldn't be found on their server. But error 404 means that page you we're trying to find was corrupted.
A HTTP 404 error is only encountered when the web server for the site you are accessing cannot find the resource (i.e. when the page, file, or location is no longer available at that specific path). Usually this will be handled behind-the-scenes and redirect you to a page that will indicate a HTTP 404 error instead of a low-level message.
You see an error message: Unable to openhttp://whatever... The Internet site reports that the item you requested could not be found. (HTTP/1.0 404)
