There are several kind of DOS, but DOS normally referred to Disk Operating System developed by Microsoft Corporation..MS DOS is created by Microsoft Corporation.. by Tim PatersonPC DOS is created by IBM..DR DOS is created by DRDOS Inc..Free DOS is an Open Source..PTS DOS is created by PhysTechSoft..
Previous answer: 1981 My answer: MS DOS was bought as QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System). Bill Gates personally oversaw the reprogramming of QDOS. DOS was not actually created by Microsoft. It was created by Seattle Computer Products and called QDOS. Microsoft later bought the rights to the software.
MS-DOS was created by Microsoft, who bought the rights to 86-DOS from Seattle Computer Products in 1981 and modified it to IBM's specifications who then released it as PC-DOS 1.0. It was also released as MS-DOS to run on PCs. MS-DOS went through eight revisions and was finally discontinued in 2000.
Not who you think. Acutally a man by the name of Tim Patterson had an operating called QDOS. Bill Gates bought it from him for use on the IBM http://inventors.about.com/library/weekly/aa033099.htm
Tim Paterson was the original developer of QDOS, the system that Microsoft purchased and developed further into MS-DOS.
QDOS was developed by Tim Paterson. Microsoft bought the source and rights from him, and developed it further to create PC-DOS, which they licensed to IBM. They later licensed it to other companies branded as "MS-DOS."
AnswerActually it was Gary Kildall who invented the first operating system... Patterson bought it for 5 bucks at a hackers computer store. All Patterson did was switch the A drive and the C drive and called it his own. IBM went to Kildall first but he wasn't home and his wife wouldn't sign the non-disclosure paper. Then Bill Gates called Patterson and gave him 50,000 for the operating system and all the rights to it. Kildall was killed in a bar fight in 1994 after becoming an alcoholic because he watched his life's work being taken from him. Tim Patterson and Microsoft didn't actually do anything. Tim Patterson (with a little help from Bill and Steve) created DOS. Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer worked together on the first GUI OS (Windows).
The origins of DOS can be traced back to 1973 with Gary Kildall's CP/M. Tim Paterson's QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System), loosely inspired by CP/M, evolved into 86-DOS which was bought by Microsoft for $50,000, which evolved into MS-DOS and IBM's PC DOS.
