You shouldn't since if a rock hits it, or you hit a dip and it cracks, you will be getting big chunks of debris into your engine which will kill it from the inside.

If that doesn't bother you (and it should), the next few things to worry about are a) can you get a big enough diameter pipe, and b) how to mount the pipe so it stays in place c) can you adapt any necessary vacuum hoses or sensor holes to it.
