Yes, unfortunately you need to use the Powercube with applicable tip (likely Micro or LG.) Its honestly no different than plugging your phone in aside from the cool noise it makes and glowing white light. The only true advantage to this approach would be a single location for charging "multiple" devices. For example, I have the 2X mat. I have a Powermat receiver on my BB and use the Powercube to charge my LG.
