They are in the process of changing their name to Just Energy as their name is now tainted. This is a common practice for business's that have been given a negative reputation.

Universal Energy Corporation/Just Energy is an energy commodity brokerage that purchases gas and/or hydro energy on the spot market and attempts to sell it back to the consumer at an inflated fixed price.

The principle behind this business is that gas and other energy prices tend to go up. By buying gas for example, when the market is low and then stock-piling it until the spot-market price rises, Universal Energy/Just Energy can resell it to their customers at below the current market price, while still above the original purchase price. This never happens.

Universal Energy/Just Energy gets the consumer to sign a contract for 5 years at a price that will never allow the unwary consumer to benefit. Therefore they make money by getting trustworthy, hard working consumers to pay inflated prices for a necessary commodity.

Once you are locked into a contract, they will use the courts to keep you paying the inflated prices or extract unreasonable penalties to break the contract resulting in thousands of dollars in extra fee's.

Universal Energy/Just Energy does mass marketing at times when there is a spike in the rates with Union Energy or Hydro Ontario. By doing this, they can state: "with the current trend, you will save money in the long run............". The reality is, they operate a company that preys on the elderly and unwary public.

Do not show your bill to these door to door fraud artists.

Sales representative often show up at your door dressed similar to the employees of Union Gas or Hydro Ontario carrying binders with Hydro Ontario logo's (often with bills from other previously scammed consumers). They infer they work for Hydro Ontario with double talk and gain the victims trust. Once you sign their contract, you are locked in for five years.

Universal Energy/Just Energy is not looking out for your best interests.
