OEM stands for 'Original equipment manufacturer'. When software or hardware companies produce a surplus of various mechanical items, they usually sell it off to third-party companies at a discount in bundled prices, to then turn and sell the items to individual people for a profit. OEM software is individually sold, typically used to describe software licensed only for a particular system.

If I make a computer, I can buy the Microsoft Windows system as a so-called OEM, so it becomes integrated into my product. That means that when I buy Windows for my computers for resale, I assume all responsibilities of the software too. So when my customers complain to me about Windows, I've got to fix it and make it right. If they contacted Microsoft about the problem, they would have to pay for service. It would be wise if they dealt with me directly, since I am the "Original Equipment Manufacturer".

Good luck and Happy Computing.
