It was the famous "Colonel Bogey March," popularized by the 1957 film "The Bridge on the River Kwai," which was about British prisoners of war in Thailand.

There is no end to the joke. Judd Nelson has said before in interviews that he completely free versed the joke. It was suppose to end with his last line after he jumps down that says "I forgot my pencil" but they couldn't think of any joke for it. So he just made up a few lines...

Presumably to keep the students occupied, Vice Principal Vernon wants each of them to write a 1000-word essay on who they are. They leave one written by Brian, which says that individuals are complex, that they all share the same characteristics in some form, despite the classifications that others try to place on them.
