Swansong was first created for London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet). It was first performed at the Teatro Arriago, Bilbao, Spain on 25th November 1987 by 'LFB' the small touring company of the Festival Ballet. Rambert performed it for the first time at the Theatre Royal Norwich on 12 April 1995.
A work for three dancers, the cast was originally all male but, it has been performed by an all female cast and with two women - an interrogator and a victim and a male interrogator.
