No, hurling and lacrosse do not both use sticks with a net. Hurling, a traditional Irish sport, uses a stick called a hurley, which has a flat, curved end for striking a small ball called a sliotar. Lacrosse, on the other hand, uses a stick with a net pocket at the end to catch, carry, and pass a rubber ball. While both sports involve sticks and balls, the equipment used is different in each case.

That is not a simple question to answer for lots of reasons. Hurling is played all year round, so there are many competitions. Many players can be playing for several teams. They may play for their local team and also be good enough to be chosen for the county team and even the provincial team. They could also be playing in different age grades. Minor is for under 18s. Senior is for anyone of 18 or over. There is also a grade for under 21. So a person who is 19 could be playing on both a senior team and an under 21 team. There are also other grades, like school and college teams and levels of ability. So for many players, there could be a lot of matches in their season.

When it comes to particular teams there are also differences. There are many competitions that teams play in. The structure of some competitions also mean that teams in the same competition that meet in the later stages could have played in a different amount of matches. A league typically has about 7 matches, but some teams may progress and play in a few additional matches. Some cup competitions allow a second chance for some teams, which leads them to playing extra matches.

So when you put all of these things together, it is not easy to say how many matches are in a season for an individual player or an individual team.

In theory you could make a hurley out of any wood. However proper hurleys are made from the wood of the ash tree, due to its strength and pliability, which is very important fo the nature of the sport of Hurling, which is different to other stick and ball games. There was an effort to make plastic hurleys in the 1980s, but they weren't suitable and the idea did not last long.

The origins of Hurling go back thousands of years. So it would not be known who invented the original camán, to give it its proper name. Over time it has changed its design, but no one individual can be credited with its creation. See the related question below.

Hurling is the fastest field game in the world and one of the most skilful. To get better at it, like any sport, you need a lot of practice and a lot of matches.

So Hurling is a game that can help keep people very healthy, whether played at the top level, or even at a lower level.

There was no All-Ireland Hurling or Football championship played in 1888, due to what is known as the "American Invasion". In 1888 a lot of Gaelic Football and Hurling players travelled to America and the All-Ireland championships were not held.

Not much equipment is needed. Players just need boots, socks, shorts and a shirt. Some players, mainly goalkeepers, will wear gloves to get a better grip on the ball. The only mandatory safety equipment is a gum shield. Other than that, you just need a ball and a place to play. Ideally, it would be a proper Gaelic Football pitch with lines and goals, but like any ball sport it can be played anywhere, like in a garden or a park or a beach.
