How do you equate the 4.0 grading scale to number grades?
well, say you are taking 12 hours. You have two 3 hour courses, one 2 hour course, and a 4 hour course.
so you have
2
3
3
4
then, say you have your grades in. (I will choose randomly for example purposes)
2 ---D
3 ---C
3 ---B
4 ---A
Well, at most institutions, the grading scale is as follows:
A=4.0
B=3.0
C=2.0
D=1.0
F=0
Then you multiply
2 x 1 = 2
3 x 2 = 6
3 x 3 = 9
4 x 4 = 16
You then take the total of the sum of the objects of the rightmost column, which in this
case, is 33, and you divide that number (33) by the total amount of hours you are taking (which would be 12 in the example), and your grade is 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
That's the reverse of what you were asking, i believe, but this message will give you some extra insight on the 4.0 scale.

It is a good score! But it really depends on what school you are trying to get into. A state school: It is a very good score and you will be fine. School more competative: Their ranges are typically like 22-28 or so and you will most likey get in (also depending on GPA). Schools like Harvard: Sorry but no where near good enough. So, depends on the school. 25 is a good score and about 81% in the U.S. But if you are looking for scholarships...that is another issue because I got a 25 and have over a 4.0 and I needed scholarship money..and you get good money when you get a 28. With a 25 and a decent GPA, you will get a little money but if you want a lot of money, you have to raise it a couple points. But overall, pretty good score!

What GPA do you need to get into duke University?
I assume you are talking about the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It is a very competitive school and the stronger your academic record, the better. Most students who are accepted have a strong GPA in challenging courses and have intellectual curiosity that is obvious on their application. Out-of-state applicants will probably find admissions a little more difficult than in state students. The majority of students are from North Carolina.

No it's not. The level of competitiveness in the school is comparable to an ivy league level but supposedly it can't be considered ivy league because it doesn't have a football team!
