Teepees or tipis were mostly used by the Plains Tribes. They were hide covered lodge poles designed to be moved in a few moments as the nomadic tribes moved. Among the many tribes who used tipis were the Cheyenne, Sioux and the Arapaho.

Some Native American tribes traditionally lived in teepees. Teepees are cone-shaped tents that were used by Plains Indians for shelter. Today, teepees are often used for cultural purposes or by people practicing traditional ways of living.

No. The area where they lived determined what type of housing they used. One reason the tepee was used by the Natives of Central plains is that they followed the herds of buffalo and it could be taken down and carried to another location.

Is a teepee a mass frame or shell structure?

A teepee is considered a shell structure. Shell structures derive their strength from their shape, which allows them to distribute loads evenly across their surfaces. In the case of a teepee, the conical shape helps to efficiently support its own weight and withstand external forces such as wind or snow loads. This is in contrast to mass structures, which rely on their mass and volume for stability.
