i have come across a website called wish you well foundation which aims at eradicating illiteracy in america. it said in there that 1/4 of the adult population - that's about 44million - possess level 1 literacy skills (the lowest so far). these people belonged to those unfortunate ones who did not even have the chance to finish high school.
