There are NO Louisiana cities with a population greater than 500,000.

At the last census (2000) New Orleans had a population of 484,674. But that was before Hurricane Katrina and the flow of people away from New Orleans. The most recent estimate for New Orleans (made in 2008) was just 311,853.

In the 2000 census, Baton Rouge had a population of 227,818.

Cities are of course different to Metropolitan areas (aka conurbations). The most recent estimate for the New Orleans metro area (again 2008) was 1,100,000. This includes New Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St Bernard, St Tammany, St Charles, St John the baptist & Washington parishes.
