Altos and mezzos

Alto is one vocal range lower than mezzosoprano. For more information, go to en.wikipedia.org and type in "alto" and "mezzosoprano". There are some nice graphics on Wikipedia that can show you the difference in the notes that altos sing compared to the ones that mezzosopranos sing.

More importantly, the way to distinguish between a tenor and an alto is very simple. Only one has hair on their back.

[ a tenor is usually a guy and alto's are more common in women ( XoXo Team Jasper Fan ]

you usually hear Mezzosoprano in Opera. You hear alto there too but alto is more common in girls that sing todays music such as Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato. An example of a mezzosoprano would be Emmy Rossum. Emmy sings in The Phantom of the Opera as Christine Daee. Christine Daee is suppose to be a Soprano but Emmy is a mezzosoprano so her voice is much lower in octave than the original script had called for. Can you sing both mezzosoprano and alto? You sure can. I sing both alto and mezzosoprano. Can you sing both mezzosoprano and soprano? No and yes. If you can control your octaves you can go higher and sing Soprano if you sing mezzo but only if youre trained, which I was. Soprano usually breaks glass. Mezzo does not break glass.
