A limited and temporary power granted certain elected and appointed government officials to protect the rights of the individual, to establish justice, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, insure domestic tranquility and secure the blessings of liberty. This power has been granted by the people by separating powers into three distinct branches. The first is the legislative body which is a bicameral house split between the House of Representatives and the United States Senate. The Executive branch consists of the President of the United States who also serves as the Commander and Chief, the Vice President and a number of appointed Cabinet officials. The Judicial branch is the Supreme Court of the United States which serves as the Court of final appeal.
