As a lifelong citizen of Utah, I swear that I have never heard about any dealings of the KKK in Utah.
Historically, there have been members of the KKK in government as well as those sympathetic to their views or ideals. However, the government was never wholly subverted by the KKK.

Yes, the KKK is know for using intimidation tactics to try and influence politics. This mostly happened right after the civil war.
In the early years of the last Century, probably nothing would have happened if a president had been a member of the KKK. It might have gotten him more votes in some sections and he would have lost votes in other parts of the country.
We assume you mean "banned." The KKK has never been banned. We live in a country that prizes freedom of assembly, unlike the one they would like to have.
