They create better space and conditions for their animals to live in and don't try to make them grow faster. In organic farming the farmers have nice conditions for their animals to live in so they don't get sick.

However, since all animals can become ill unless they're kept in absolutely sterile conditions, this leaves the organic farmer with only the options of selling the animal to a conventional farmer or euthanising it. Animals which are ill are not allowed to be marketed for food purposes.

Instead of using pesticides what do farmers use?

Although organic farmers do in fact typically use some pesticides, they are greatly limited in what kinds of pesticides they are allowed to use. They therefore have to typically use lots of hand labor in the production of their crops. This is one reason why organic produce, for example, tends to be a little more costly than its counterpart.

Organic Farmers use very fine compost as a mulch. A Mulch sits on the surface and protects the Eco System underneath from intruders and, as it rains, the water will carry nutrients from the compost deeper to the bottom of the soil where the roots grow.

What is the difference between an organic apple and a regular Apple?

Some farmers grow apples in what they call an organic method. These are "grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones". The farmers that use the term organic must go along with the rules as set above.A recent study examined the past 50 years' worth of scientific articles concluded that organically and conventionally produced foodstuffs are not significantly different in their nutrient content.

How do organic farmers cope without using pesticides?

Organic farmers use crop rotations, natural predators, and beneficial insects to control pests and diseases without pesticides. They also focus on improving soil health and plant resilience through methods such as composting, cover cropping, and using resistant crop varieties. Additionally, practicing good weed management techniques helps reduce competition for crops, making them less vulnerable to pest attacks.

Do farmers in Canada use antibiotics in cattle?

Who says we don't? Of course we do, we use antibiotics almost as much and for the same reasons as our neighbors to the south of us do, except that we don't feed antibiotics to our dairy cows. With beefers, antibiotics are, just like our southerly neighbors, used to treat sick animals or as a means to increase feed efficiency and average daily gain in our feedlot cattle.

Why do organic farmers not use herbicides?

That chemicals, genetic modification and synthetics are disallowed is the reason why organic farmers do not use herbicides. The equivalent controls in organic farming receive the label botanicals if the treatments come from plants, such as pyrethrin from Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium. Much of the plant pest control in organic farming will be achieved by eliminating the stresses that encourage pathogens and pests through respect for plant-specific air, heat, light, moisture and nutrient needs.

Is it true that in certified organic farming they are not allowed to use medicine and other products to help ease disease and discomfort in animals?

This depends upon the requirements of the organic certification, but in general there are no antibiotics, antiparasiticides or analgesics allowed for use on an organic farm in the United States. If an animal has a medical need for these drugs, the animal has to be transferred or sold to a non-organic farm.
