Some science and technology are harmful to the earth--example pollution by artificial toxic chemicals, atomic bombs, "development" that threatens extinction for many species, sonar that kills dolphins--the list goes on. Responsible scientists and technologists can work to remedy the negative effects!

For one, people become over dependent on technology for everyday life that:

1) Calculators are used for math problems that used to be solved mentally

2) Transportation rides rob away the opportunity for physical exercise like walking

3) Materialism makes people to love things and use people

4) Recreational electronics hook kids indoors instead of forming friendships outdoors

5) People are connected through different modes of communications and yet are still emotionally apart. Texting has replaced voice calls. Voice calls has replaced personal visits.

6) Pharmaceuticals became an instant resort for relief curing symptoms but with lots of side effects instead of going organic for overall health remedies.

7) Less sleep due to busyness watching TV, playing video consoles and others.

Although technology by itself is neutral, it encouraged people to become more lazy.

people get lazy

English skills have been crippled by spell check, also, you can become just plain boring, because you are so immersed in your game, or phone, or social networking site, that you just become socially inept.

Science and Technology are always advancing, some people believe that the world is good the way it is or the way it was in the past and to those people change alone can be a negative effect.

Unintended consequences is another major negative effect of many new technologies. Introductory phases of new technology, after a new technology is commercialized, can be fraught with structural failures, political ramifications, ecological disasters, and other long term effects that cannot be predicted.

Ultimately most technological advancement and scientific breakthrough tends toward the good, and those that have negative effects are dropped or "fixed".

Current problems that could be argued to be because of Technology include Ecological problems such as deforestation, global warming, climate-change, and species extinction, social problems such as internet addiction, and the devastating effects of modern weapons. Many of these problems are also caused by societal issues and can be repaired by implementing governmental policies and improving awareness in the populace.
