The impact that the Jukebox has had on society is very major. It's a staple of the American culture as I'm sure it is in many others around the world.

From the time the Jukebox kicked off "Happy Days" to the day when Kelly McGillis dropped a quarter in a machine and played "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers in "Top Gun," the Jukebox has been highlighted in some of the best moments of cinematic history. The Jukebox scene is famous in "Ghost" when Patrick Swayze sits behind the boyish-looking Demi Moore and ruins her clay pottery. The jukebox scene is hilarious in "Friends" when Monica has to dance every time someone plays "YMCA," and Chandler has a pocket full of quarters. A jukebox has a way of making a scene much better because of its sense of nostalgia. We can all relate to the jukebox.

Every one of us, at some time or another, has stood in front of a jukebox, popped a few quarters in and started looking for music we like. It's like a game of discovery, hoping that we can find at least one song we love. Most of the time we find several. We sit down once we have picked our songs and we wait for them to play. That's a strong part of American tradition.

There are restaurants across America that have jukeboxes at every table. Pop the quarters in and flip through page after page of songs listed in Alphabetical order. You wouldn't find many of these in five star restaurants, but just the fun ones where you can get a pizza and a fountain drink. It seems like the jukebox is everywhere we go.

In this day and age, we have mp3 players and cell phones with ring tones. But, the jukebox has not seen its last days. It's actually the precursor to this new technology trend. Songs come out in singles, although there has to be another side. We choose only that song, not an entire album. We can take some songs out and put other songs in their place. It's the manual version of the mp3 player I bought my daughter for Christmas.

She has all the songs she wants in a small package that she can slip in her pocket. But, it's like she carries her own jukebox with her. It's a distant cousin to the mp3 player at best, but they're still related. And as the jukebox steps up to the digital age, plug it into the internet and enjoy virtually every song every uploaded to the internet, which is just about every song ever made.
