Acid rain is mostly caused by human emissions of different sulfur and nitrogen compounds which once in atmosphere produce acids. Main reason for acid rains is air pollution as a result of fossil fuels burning. Power plants (especially coal based), factories, cars, they all produce polluting gases and some of them when in atmosphere react with water in clouds to create sulphuric and nitric acids which are very harmful to our environment once they fall on Earth in the form of acid rain. Acid rain can also take the form of snow, mists and dry dusts, although most common form is rain. The rain isn't always falling just on the polluted area as it can fall many miles away from the source of pollution. Wherever it falls, it has very harmful effect on soil, trees and water.

The burning of fossil fuels can cause smog and acid rain.

Does Mars have acid rain?

No, Mars does not have acid rain as far as we know. The atmosphere on Mars is very thin and mostly composed of carbon dioxide, which does not support the formation of acid rain.

The sulfur and nitrogen compounds in smog combines to form?

sulfuric acid and nitric acid, which are responsible for acid rain formation.

What are two gases involved in the formation of acid rain?

Two gases involved in the formation of acid rain are sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx). These gases are released into the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels, vehicles, and industrial activity, where they combine with water vapor to form sulfuric acid and nitric acid, resulting in acid rain.

How is acid rain formed from sulfur trioxide?

Sulfur trioxide can react with water in the atmosphere to form sulfuric acid, which can then contribute to acid rain formation. This reaction produces sulfuric acid by combining with water vapor in the atmosphere, creating a corrosive solution that falls to the earth's surface as acid rain.

Can smoke from factories cause acid rain?

Yes, smoke from factories can contribute to the formation of acid rain. When sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in the smoke combine with water vapor in the atmosphere, they form sulfuric acid and nitric acid, leading to acid rain. This acid rain can harm ecosystems, damage buildings, and affect water quality.

Is air pollution a result of acid rain?

Air pollution can contribute to the formation of acid rain. When pollutants like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air from sources like cars and factories, they can react with moisture in the atmosphere to form sulfuric acid and nitric acid, which can then fall to the ground as acid rain.
