Who were the nuwss and the wspu?
The National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies was formed in
England in 1897 to unite groups campaigning for votes for women by
legal and political means. They were known as the Suffragists.
The Women's Social and Political Union was founded in England in
1903, breaking away from the NUWSS to campaign by more active
means, including demonstrations, damage to property and disrupting
political meetings. They were known as Suffragettes.
