Yes, there were and are Negroes in Freemason Lodges. Many blacks are members of Prince Hall Affiliated Lodges. There are many black members of Lodges in Britain and throughout Africa as well.
Order of Eastern Star (OES) Prince Hall Affiliation (PHA) is an OES appendant body of the PHA Freemasons. PHA Freemasons have their own Grand Lodges.
To be sure, check with the Grand Lodges in your local jurisdictions (Both AF&AM and PHA). I believe that most, if not all AF&AM and Prince Hall Grand lodges the other to be regular.
This information changes over time, but the current information says that among American states, only West Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas do not recognize Prince Hall lodges. Outside of the United States, all jurisdictions are prepared in principle to recognize PH lodges, but in many cases the official recognition has not been finalized because both sides are waiting for the other to make the first move.
It has been a long time coming, but there are no "Black" versus "White" Masonic lodges. Yes, Prince Hall lodges where originally exclusively African American (and now are generally predominantly African American) where as most Free and Accepted Masons lodges where originally exclusively white. At this time, I believe that all US Grand Lodges of F & AM and Prince Hall Grand Lodges recognize each other as regular allowing for members to co-mingle Masonically.
