How did Dave Pelzer get rescued?

Well Dave's teachers were concerned about the bruises and marks on his body so every day he went to school he'd have to go see the school nurse one day the beatings marks were so bad the teachers called the police and Dave got put in foster care

Dave Pelzer escaped his mom's house after his mother yelled at him to get out because of an argument she had with his father on the way she treated David. Once he left, David went to a Pizza store. A man named Mark sees him steal his quarter, and after David tells why, Mark gives him a Coke and talks to him about his mom. Mark also calls the police, who take David home...again. David's mother's excuse for Dvid running away was "that they wouldn't let him ride his bike and he ran away." David didn't even have a bike at the time!

The second time David escaped...for real, was when the police came, and took him. Doctors examined the various wounds on his body, too. Finally, after a court case known as the Pelzer case, David was taken into a foster home, away from his mom.
