A 383 is a 350 block with a 400 crank. The block is bored to 4.030". A 400 has a 4.125" bore, so you'd need to bore the 383 roughly .095", which is probably not practical as the 350 is not made to be overbored that much.

To build a 383 sbc (small block Chevy) a 3.75 inch stroke 400 sbc crank is added to a .030 inch overbored 350 sbc. This combination has never been released by Chevrolet in a production vehicle . So the answer to your question is no .

The 1978 El Camino was NEVER available with anything larger than a 350 CID motor from the factory. The horsepower ratings for these motors ranged from about 160 to 180 depending on the model. The "383 stroker" is a non-factory motor that is usually based on a 350 block that has been overbored and then equipped with a crankshaft with a longer stroke. Horsepower ratings for such a motor can range from 250 to over 500 depending on other engine modifications (camshaft, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, injection or carburetion, etc).

Its called a slug choke you can buy them a Cabelas, Bass Pro Shop, probably online in a bunch of places, and walmart might sell them but try elsewhere first.

A rifled slug may safely be fired through any choke except 3- an "extra full" choke, which is non-standard, used in turkey shoots- or a variable choke- the fingers of the choke may be broken by a slug- and last- ANY shotgun that the maker says not to use slugs. Some are "overbored"- barrel inside diameter larger than usual- and slug can get a bit sideways. MODIFIED usually give best accuracy, but will vary from gun to gun.

NO, the pistons and rings must be correct for the bore size. Example: Your 302 Ford bored .050 has a 4.050 bore so it would need a piston ofapproximately 4.046 (forged piston) for a clearance of .004 your piston being .010 too small would cause .014 clearance and massive blow by, oil fouling of the plugs, piston noise, scored cylinder walls, poor performance, and VERY short engine life. Get the right parts, do it right the first time, it is cheaper in the long run.

Also if .010 over rings are used in a .050 overbored engine your ring gap would be HUGE! You cannot "add up" the two spec. You need +.050 pistons and +.050 rings.

Please note if you are using cast pistons you can run tighter (smaller) clearances than in the above example. The best method is to have the block bored after you have the pistons, so your machinists can measure them and bore/hone to the exact spec. If your block is already bored and you know the EXACT bore measurement, order them from a reputable piston manufacture as most are pretty accurate now days, just make sure you double check the specs when they arrive.
