Odysseus uses flattery on Calypso's island by complimenting her over his wife Penelope. He makes her believe that the only reason he wants to be back home is because of Nostos, or homesickness. He bluntly states that Calypso is more beautiful and so on.
2 answers
the word you're looking for is nostalgia, right? "nostos" means homecoming, and "algos" means intense pain. Which means suffering from your need to return to your place of origin. Sth like being really, reaaally homesick i guess. I'm Greek and we learn ancient Greek at school..When we did the Odyssey, they almost brainwashed that with that word :p
1 answer
The term nostalgia describes a longing for the past, often in idealized form. The word is made up of two Greek roots (νόστος nostos "returning home", and άλγος algos "pain"), to refer to "the pain a sick person feels because he wishes to return to his native home, and fears never to see it again". It was described as a medical condition, a form of melancholy, in the Early Modern period, and came to be an important topic in Romanticism.

Actually, Odyssey is parted in three sections. The first is called 'Telemacheia' and the main character is Telemachus, prince of Ithaka, an island in the Ionian Sea, whose father had left 20 years before to fight at the Trojan War. It follows him as he seeks to find out if his father is dead or not with the support of Greek goddess Athena. The second is called 'Nostos' (returning) and it the main character here is Odysseus, Telemachus' father, who tries to get back to his homeland going through many obstacles. A connection?
Well first off the first book is The Hunger Games, second is Catching Fire, and third is Mockingjay.
They're all great books, and if you mean like a connection to the books (all three of them) well you can sort of feel the pain, ESPECIALLY in Mockingjay with all of the deaths, and then Rue and Prim, you can feel a connection with them....
