3-4ft/lbs. In short a doxie couldent bite, or fight his way out of a wet paper bag. B/S - my 12 pound mini-doxie bit someone through a rugged leather shoe and broke the skin. I would estimate that bite pressure to be on the order of 80 -90 lbs. based on some tests I performed.

Typically small dogs (under 30 lbs.) at 2 years of age equate to a man of 24 years. Each additional year of a small dog's life equates to 4 years of a man's life. Thus a 14 year old doxie is equivalent to a 72 year old man.

Most dogs come into season/heat every six months for 10-14 days. Your dog will start bleeding and will repeatedly lick itself. Dogs are often very touchy and react out of character at this time. Some dogs will become more aggressive to other dogs at this time also.

Well obviously a miniature dachshund is smaller than a regular sized dachsund. I own a three year own longhaired miniature dachshund and she is considerably smaller than a standard sized, but they are not actually very different other than size. They are still what I would consider a small dog trapped in a big dog's body. (:

Firstly, you look for a short cute name that you like. If the dog already has a full name just make up a shorter one using the letters in the dogs name. If the dog doesnt have a full name and you are that stuck, look at him/her and think about what he/she reminds you of. Whether its a food or anything else. Its easy!!

There is no inherent connection between the length of a dachshund's hair and their energy levels. A dachshund's temperament can vary depending on its individual personality, upbringing, and environment rather than simply its coat length. Both short hair and long hair dachshunds can exhibit high energy levels.

Dorkie - a hybrid or designer dog created from breeding a Dachshund (Doxie) and a Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie). As far as I know there are two types of Dorkies being bred: The F1 Dorkie which is a 50/50 mix created by crossing a 100% purebred Dachshund with a 100% purebred Yorkshire Terrier and the F1b Dorkie which is a 25/75 mix created by crossing an F1 Dorkie with either a 100% purebred Dachshund or Yorkshire-Terrier. These two types are now being registered with the CKC in an effort to establish a new breed. Are they a mixed breed? Sure they are, however, all the purebreds began as mixed breeds, so why not? The theory is that all dogs descended from the wolves anyway!

A couple smacks on the butt with a rolled up newspaper (preferably the Sunday edition) sould take care of it. Never take crap from a doxie, they're only 6inches tall...
In dealing with Weiner-dogs, remember this phrase, "Walk soflty and carry a rolled up newspaper"
REALLY, If you are serious, first try making the "wrong answer" noise, "hiss" sound, or whatever noise you already use to signal to the dog it is doing something wrong. If this does not work, you must have the dog surrender the treat. If you are scared your dog may hurt you, hitting it with a long object may work. Now, if you were actually a dog you would quickly strike the neck of the puppy with your mouth, grasping it, until the puppy surrendered long enough for you to remove the object. Since you are human, you should find a way to do this with your hand until the dog rolls over on its back. This says without confusion, stop what you are doing now or else. Do this every time she growls at you approaching her with a treat. Praise heavily a non-growl situation.

My mini doxie just had her 19th birthday October 23, 2012. As long as she's not suffering in any way, I hope to have a few more years with her. She is partially blind & can't hear well but other than that, she's fine. With this breed the spine is usually what kills them as the spine affects all their major organs. She's not arthritic, in fact, she has good muscle & bone tone. She can jump down but is fearful to do so as she has no depth perception but gone are the days of getting up stairs or on furniture. God bless all these little doggies!

The answer will vary by location and by breed. Purebred pups cost more. Mixed wiener dogs are usually available from shelters or rescue agencies for a minimal sum, usually not more than $30 to $50. Some owners will advertise free puppies to good homes.
It is possible to pay up to $700 USD or more for a rare breed like the miniature dachshund.

What has worked for me is just to cut back on the amount of regular food I give my doxie.
IE: if he normally gets a heaping 1/4 cup twice a day to keep his weight steady, make it a level cup or a smidge below the cup edge until he gets to the desired weight. Another way, if you give him scraps and little tastes of your people food, is to STOP doing that.
Also be sure to figure in doggy treats. If you want to give him a special treat say, 2 times a day, either look for low or no-calorie treats or reduce his food intake a bit to compensate for anything you add to his diet. With a dachshund, every little bit counts. If you have a little beggar, and what dachshund isn't, follow a couple of simple rules. (See BELOW) Once he/she knows the rules and schedule, he/she will only get in your face at the "scheduled" food times.
1. Never feed you dachshund when you are eating. And I mean, NEVER. Intermittent reinforcement of a bad behavior is VERY difficult to correct once you set this pattern. Either give him a treat of his own before or after you are done, is this is a "scheduled treat" time. I recommend afterward, in a specific place, ie. where you normally feed him or where you normally give him a treat (like on the deck). Do not feed him where you were eating. 2. Give him/her treats at specific times each day. Mine gets 1 at MY lunchtime, and 1 at about 8PM. His internal clock never fails to let me know when it's time. The same goes for meal times. Never leave a dish of food out for 'browsing'. Remove your dog's dish as soon as he is done eating. Twice a day feeding is better than once a day. If he doesn't have the expectation of food coming his way at any given moment, he won't be in your face asking you for some, (AND he won't have the opportunity to over-eat). Dogs LOVE scheduled events of any kind. They like to know what to expect. 3. Don't forget the exercise factor, if you & your dachshund are able. This not only uses up calories by expending energy, but also makes for a mellower dog.
Low-cal. treat ideas:
1. Ice cubes
2. Baby Carrots
3. Dr. Eckstein's Hugs & Kisses (full of vitamines and great for your dog's coat. You can google his website for mail order. We love them.)
4 Check you dog treat labels. Generally "biscuits" are lower cal. than "chewys". There are teeny biscuits available, but is your dachshund prefers volume, look for the ones with lots of fiber. Fiber is calorie free.
5. REAL Greenie treats, either, the little chips sold for cats, or a portion of a Greenie 'tooth brush' small enough that your dog can swallow it whole without needing a vet to retrieve it. (Dogs who like the real thing, DON'T like the 'fake brand' greenies, I've found).

There are MANY great family dogs. It simply relies on where you live, if your home and can you take it.
1. Golden Retriever
You need to live in a big house, with a pool or lake because these dogs LOVE to swim. They love to swin so much in fact that they have webbed feet!
Golden retrieves need exercise, you need to be home at least five hours a day (Not including night). To keep this dog, fit and active. A big dog, means lots of eating and unfortunately a lot of droppings. XP If you are the person who likes to collect nic nacs, i suggest you NOT get this dog, because it's tail is like a broom. A few wags of a tail and for Sunshine State Nic Nacs are on the floor!
2. Dachshund
You don't need a huge house for this dog but you do need to be patient. Dachshund usually don't like to swim. But they have a lot of energy. If you get a dachshund, it's encouraged you get another dog, not an old one for the doxie to play with. Don't let this dog get over weight. It may hurt their back. These dogs eat a lot! THEY ARE THE CLASS CLOWNS OF THE DOG WORLD! They have big noses as are constantly sniffing around. If you hate vacuming up ripped up paper, don't get this dog.
3. Chihuahua
I do not recommend a chihuahua for small children at all. They are small but pack a punch. Even the sweetest of chihuahua's have a mean side. They will snap and are very rotective of they're bone and they tene to get really attached to one person. Although they do like other people. They just get really attached to a single person. Usually someone who feeds them. They are delicate little dogs. They are for older, more gentle kids or an elder who wants an apartment pet.
4.Poodle
They are perfect for people with allergies and they are sweet. If you don't like to groom dogds, this breed is not recomended. They requrie tons of grooming. These dogs are EXTREMELY fast. They are calm. They are a good watchdog.
They are not the glamour pusses on tv. They were origanally bred for hunting. Swimming in fact. Yet some don't fancy water as much!
If none of these dongs really sound like they're for you go to

This depends upon the dog and the pork bones involved. I'll briefly summarize the major considerations below.
1. The smaller the dog, the worse the idea of feeding bones to it. This is because bone shards can become lodged in the stomach or intestinal tract and cause lacerations of the GI tract, which are medical emergencies. Larger dogs have larger diameter tubes for the bones to pass through, reducing the risk of lacerations.
2. The more food-motivated the dog, the worse the idea of feeding bones to it. This is because dogs that practically inhale their food are at increased risk of not chewing the bone down into digestable pieces. As the bone fragments become larger when they are swallowed, the dog's risk of an intestinal laceration increases.
3. Cooked bones are generally worse that uncooked bones. This is because bones become more brittle when cooked, and therefore are more likely to shatter into sharp pieces rather than crumble when chewed.
4. Larger, knobbier bones are generally better than slim or small bones. This is because a larger bone (like a femur knuckle) is far to big for the dog to wrap its jaw around and shatter - he has to gnaw and scrape at the bone and get bone dust rather than bone shards into his mouth. Rib bones can be easily shattered in one bite, particularly by a large dog.
From the above, you can draw your own conclusions about whether or not your dog can safely eat pork bones, and which pork bones you want to feed him. In the wild, wolves eat bones all the time, and a dog's digestive tract is very similar to a wolf's. In general, if you have a large pork knuckle or ham bone that you want to give your large-breed dog that takes 20 minutes to chew and eat his supper kibble, that's probably OK. I would strongly recommend not feeding leftover rib bones to your Dachshund that is affectionately called the "Amazing Doxie Vacuum" for his ability to suck down food in seconds.

Bring her/him to the vet. Maybe it's the quality of the food or maybe she/he ate scraps from the floor or too much treats or food. A good type of dog food i suggest is Origin. Is #1 dog food in the world. Its all natural containing no wheat which is bad for them. It has 70% protein and the meat is in the kibble was caught fresh not frozen with tons of artificial things. All the dog food in groceries stores or petsmart or petco have wheat in them and as little as 21% of protein at the most or less. You can only get origin in dog boutiques. It will be life changing for your dog.
gastorenteritis is a very dangerous condition and can actually cause death in deep chested dogs, i.e. dashchunds, greyhounds are just two off the top of my head. It cause`s what is called bloat! Try not to feed your dog large meals and not from the table. Also don`t "free feed", let them eat what they want for 10 to 15 minutes then put their food bowl up. You can give them, pepto bismol, I had one little doxie and she was always getting sour stomachs, I always called her pepto, when I said that word, and she saw that pink bottle she ran, lol. Also check with your vet, you can also give them tagemet.
