Yes, you can cancel the defragmentation process before it is complete. It is probably a good idea to re-run the defragmentation at some point in the future, but failure to do so will not harm your computer.

No. It is impossible for defragmentation software to remove anything from your computer. The only way that it could would be if you closed the defrag program while it was in the middle of working, and even then it shouldn't remove multiple games, maybe create a few missing files, but not remove them. If you are using Windows 10, I have heard a few rumors about how Microsoft can uninstall any pirated software on your computer. But no, it is impossible for a defragmentation program to remove good, working games, let alone any program.

Disk defragmentation helps to keep the HDD activity smooth and fast thus preventing lags in the opening of files, programs etc. Another important advantage is that if you defrag regularly, you dont need to wait for ages before your PC starts or shuts down. It contributes to maintaining good speed and performance of your system.

Disk defragmentation organizes fragmented files on a disk so that they are stored in contiguous blocks, reducing the time it takes for the drive to locate and retrieve the data. This leads to faster access speeds because the system can read the data more efficiently without having to search multiple locations on the disk.
1 answer
Defragmentation is the process of rewriting non-contiguous parts of a file to contiguous sectors on a disk for the purpose of increasing data access and retrieval speeds. Because FAT and NTFS disks can deteriorate and become badly fragmented over time, defragmentation is vital for optimal system performance.

Mac OS X manages the disk in an entirely different way than Windows does. According to Apple defragmentation should never be necessary and so they do not provide a defragmentation utility.
I have used 3rd party defragmenters on Macs and although they did reduce fragmentation significantly there was no detectable effect on the computer's performance. This matches Apple's comments on the issue.

No. It is a tool used to logically organise the files on a hard drive to increase access speed of these files when being accessed by a program. It has no association with formatting.
Formatting is completely different from disk defragmentation. Many times files pulls out from their usual place, and defragmentation only puts them back to their places so that for the next time they can be accessed conveniently.

Traditional hard drives arrange data on metal platters in a circular track similar to a vinyl record. The drive functions best when the data is arranged sequentially.
During the normal use of a computer files are created, change size, and are removed. When this happens small fragments of the files are created throughout the drive. This fragmentation of data is normal, but gradually degrades the speed of the hard drive.
To load a specific file the hard drive must read from many different areas and assemble the file in the system memory from the many small file fragments. Defragmentation is the process of re-organizing the hard drive data including the file fragments into a sequential order. Regular defragmentation will allow a hard drive to load files and programs faster than one which is not defragmented.
Newer solid state drives do not have the same performance loss issues from fragmentation that traditional hard drives do. Solid state drives should not be defragemented as it decreases the life of the drive.

Hard drive defragmentation is not difficult, and there is software available for this task for any operating system. Windows includes as part of the operating system "Disk Defragmenter" (in Accessories/System Tools); there are also free third-party tools available like Auslogics Disk Defrag, MyDefrag, and Defraggler. The Macintosh operating system has basic defragmentation routines which run automatically, but should you wish you can purchase Disc Warrier or iDefrag.
